Issue 13

Published by:

24 x 17 pages 64 pages Softcover

£5.00

Boneshaker is a perfect-bound, advertisement-free quarterly publication celebrating bicycles and the people who ride them. From wild alleycats to weird wanderlust, we're about freedom, friendship and adventure - the human side of cycling. Whilst we love a beautiful bicycle as much as anyone, Boneshaker’s more about what bicycles can do than what they look like. No training tips, race diets or adverts. It's not how much your bike weighs that matters, but where it takes you. It's not how fast you got there, but what you saw on the way.

Cali Thornhill Dewitt
White Girl

Published by: MTHM

52 pages 17,5 x 23,0 cm  Softcover Full Colour Offset Edition of 300  2013

£10.00

White Girl is the new book from previous GP exhibitor Cali Thornhill Dewitt. All images are set on a black background or full bleed. The black background is normally a turn-off for me, being over thought and draining on the images, but this looks great. MTHM have done a seriously good job in taking Cali's immediate pictures and elevating them beyond. Cali has a great skill for taking moments and still making them feel just like that, not too 'here it is, here is the picture' but more 'here it is, here is the picture, you see, here is a bunch more you're going to love'. An incredible collection, we're gonna be waiting here for the next book!

Rainer Ganahl and Johan F. Hartle
DADALENIN

Published by: Editions Taube

16 x 23 cm 608 pages Black and White Offset Print Hardcover 2014

£23.00

DADALENIN reconstructs and speculates about how Dada and Lenin had more in common than is usually assumed. The book points to some of the tragicomic aspects of their parallel and overlapping artistic and political histories in order to question the unfulfilled legacy of the avant-garde.  In Rainer Ganahl’s voluminous series of works DADA and Lenin are abundant sources of historical imagination. To dive into the historical situation Ganahl uses a variety of artistic media and techniques––ranging from animation movies to theatre performances, from ink drawings to bronze sculptures, departing from a number of historical details and catch phrases, from the no-man’s land between porn, terror and the history of the avant-gardes.  Co-editor Johan F. Hartle’s text situates DADALENIN in the development of Rainer Ganahl’s work and reconstructs it in the context of current debates on the artistic and political avant-garde. DADALENIN thus appears as a reflection of numerous key motifs of contemporary cultural theory, indirectly haunting us in all kinds of monstrous alliances.  Edited by Rainer Ganahl and Johan F. Hartle, with contributions by Boris Groys and Jenny Borland.

Sølve Sundsbø
Rosie and 21 Men

Published by: Shoot Gallery

21,2 x 28,6 cm Hardcover Edition of 500 2013

£40.00

Sølve Sundsbø is one of the great innovators in contemporary image-making. His photographs have been included in some of the most significant fashion photography exhibitions. Recent projects include the film installation commissioned by W Magazine, “The Ever Changing Face of Beauty”, at the Park Avenue Armoury in NY and his “Perroquets” exhibition at GunGallery in Stockholm. He also created the catalogue for “Savage Beauty”, the Alexander McQueen retrospective at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Sølve Sundsbø has a capacity for visual experimentation that has brought him enduring respect within the industry. He was born and raised in Norway and, since his move to London in 1995, has shot campaigns for many of the world’s great fashion houses including Chanel, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana. He shoots editorials for magazines as diverse as Italian Vogue, Love, i-D and W. In 2011, his New York Times Oscar portfolio “14 Actors Acting” won an Emmy. “Sølve Sundsbø doesn’t take photographs. He creates photographs. That’s the basis for this exhibition. A naked man or a female monkey – it doesn’t matter. This is not an exhibition of what Sølve Sundsbø has been photographing for the past twenty years. It’s an exhibition that shows a photographer who changes our perception of reality somewhat. By making it his own.” – Greger Ulf Nilson.

Francesco Vezzoli
The Museum of Crying Women

Published by: Kaleidoscope Press

158 pages 23 x 17cm Hardback 2013

£38.00

Gathering together some of the most iconic female figures of the last century, Italian artist Francesco Vezzoli’s (b.1971) debut exhibition in the Middle East celebrates the feminine in its most admired and glamorous form. On view in the QMA Gallery in Katara from 7 October until 30 November, the show will display Vezzoli’s most striking portraits, embroideries and needleworks depicting famous women, from Joan Crawford to Elizabeth Taylor to Lady Gaga. Adorned with Vezzoli’s signature embroidered tears, the exhibition seeks to reflect the drama of the divided female identity and the anguish of being caught in between a private life and a life in the spotlight. Presented in a space reminiscent of the Versailles Hall of Mirrors, Hollywood legends brush shoulders with first ladies and fashion icons meet pop culture celebrities.

From the editors: "Before the Earth was covered mostly in water, there lived a people who worshipped petrochemicals and spent vast sums of money on things called “art objects.” I kept revisiting this thought as I worked: these far-future humans, or maybe even post-humans, puzzling over this funny piece of sculpture—which was now, thanks to my careful ministrations, almost completely free of water stains. It did somehow get me through the day."
